Eight months later...

We’re still alive! Well, almost. Fenella had a little scare with her knee, but fear not good friends, her soccer career is not over. Report says she’s out for two weeks and is considered probable for her next soccer match around that time.

Anyways. There were several reasons why we didn’t update, and many reasons why we’re starting again. Our favorite:

Taya: You should start that [the blog] up again since you’re out [injured]
Taya: Like those players that do sportscasting, haha

Thanks for the encouragement!

So what’s new?

The Big News:
We started a Fantasy Football league. It only has four people, and is really for experimental purposes since we’re all newbies. Here are the standings so far:

IMAWESOME 4-1-0
Andrea 3-2-0
Witwicky 2-3-0
Vickster1234 1-4-0

What’s even better, our top player has not once logged onto the site, nor does she even know who’s on her team. When we informed her that she was ahead in the standings, her response was, “Huh? For what?” IMAWESOME, indeed.

Eight months is a long time, so we’re not even gonna begin to sum up what’s happened in that time. But we can tell you what did NOT happen in that time:

The Chicago Bears did not win the Super Bowl, even with scoring on the opening kickoff
Baseball did not get any more interesting in the regular season
David Beckham did not live up to expectations when joining the Galaxy (but he sure did get hotter….RRRRR!)
The Buffalo Bills did not win MNF despite 6 Tony “I-Want-to-be-like-JD-Booty” Romo turnovers
Andrea did not get a pony for her birthday
Fenella did not move back to the east coast

Now onto what’s happening now…

A Rocky run for Colorado, an even Rockier one for the Metropolitans
For the first time in franchise history, the Colorado Rockies are going to the National League Championship Series. This is also the first time they have reached the post-season. Out of the “latest” expansion teams, they are the last team to make the post-season. In other news, ESPN Radio Host Mike Golic cursed the New York Mets, who did not make the playoffs. He’s lucky that the Yankees lost the American League Division Series, or Mets fans would have REALLY had some beef.

Losing to Trees
On this past fateful Saturday, USC lost at home. To Stanford. Yes, STANFORD!!!! Stanford, 41 point underdogs , 1-3 so far this year, 1-10 last year, scraping-the-bottom-of-all-of-division-one-college-football-barrell. USC – undefeated in the Coliseum for 6 years, winner of 5 Pac-10 championships, 3 Heisman trophy winners, 2 National titles, and the best recruiting class in college football – fell 24-23. How is that even comprehensible? Well, 4 John David Booty interceptions, a lost fumble, maybe 100 yards in penalties, countless dropped passes, and not one but two defensive breakdowns in the last minute of the 4th quarter will probably do it. (Fenella started hyperventilating in the last minute of the game.) As a result, USC dropped 8 spots to Number 10, along with their ego. You’d think after the previous week’s Washington scare, they’d be fired up for Stanford. Nope. Let’s hope the next few weeks, USC bounces back and makes a fight for BCS Bowl #6. Fight On, Trojans, Fight On! Not to be outdone, UCLA lost to Notre Dame – who were competing with Stanford for worst team in college football. Thank you silver lining.

In the meantime, LSU continued to beat everybody else up. And who would’ve thought that South Florida would be a top five team?!

Maybe getting injured wasn’t such a bad thing…

So in preparation for her big comeback, Fenella went to buy a knee brace. She headed down to Sports Chalet in Marina del Rey (take note, fellow SoCal sports gals), where, as she was musing over the different brands and level of support offered to her in the sports medicine aisle, some random guy came up and started chatting her up! Eventually, she got his number so he would finally leave her alone. Okay, so kind of creepy and definitely random, but also…Who knew the knee brace section of Sports Chalet was a hot spot for meeting guys???

And finally…Our hometown teams: The Washington Redskins are 3-1, and 50% towards our hopes of a 6-10 season. Wooohooo!!!! Seriously, they’re looking kinda good, except for maybe the 2nd half against the Giants. We don’t know what happened, but we always seem to fall apart to the Giants. The ‘Skins, however, manhandled Detroit. Guess too many people won’t be fantasizing over Jon Kitna as their quarterback!

Our heart goes out to Etan Thomas of our beloved Washington Wizards, who we recently found out, has a heart ailment. He’s been on the Wizards longer than anybody (even Gilbert), so we’ll be sad if he can’t play this year, especially since the Wiz have pretty much no centers to speak of. On a more serious note, Etan is a super humanitarian off the field, and somebody with that big a heart cannot have an ailing one!!! Get well soon, Etan – our prayers are with you.

And congrats to DC United for making it to the playoffs! They’re one of the better teams in MLS this year, and have a solid group of guys that look like they could go all the way! Reminiscent of the glory years way back when in the ‘90’s….Jaime Moreno (yes, he’s still alive and kicking – literally) leads the team, and the league in scoring – mad props to ya! We would also like to give a shout-out to our pal Amir, who hooks us up with tix to the MLS Cup and DC United games – we heart you!

As for the O’s and Nats…um…go team? No wait, they can’t go. Except home to enjoy the off-season!

Thoughts and Prayers
Our hearts go out to those affected by the deaths of marathon runners throughout the nation over the past weekend.
